A Workshop Built on Patience and Precision
Pendulux has served watch owners in Karon and across Phuket since 2011. The work is hands-on, the pricing is clear, and the same watchmaker looks after every piece that comes through the door.
Back to HomeHow Pendulux Came to Be
Pendulux was founded in Karon in 2011 by Marcus Delacroix, a Swiss-trained watchmaker who arrived in Phuket with a portable bench, a modest stock of parts, and a conviction that the island's watch-owning community deserved a proper workshop rather than a souvenir-shop counter service.
The name comes from the Latin pendulum — the oscillating heart of a mechanical movement — and the Latin lux, for light. A nod to the coastal brightness of Karon and the clear, unhurried work ethos Marcus wanted the shop to embody.
Over fifteen years, Pendulux has grown from a one-room counter to a two-bench workshop, but the approach has stayed the same: one owner, one watchmaker on the premises, every repair handled with care and explained in plain language.
Our Principles
-
Honest Assessments
If a watch isn't worth the cost of a bench service, we'll say so. We'd rather give useful advice than take on work that doesn't serve the owner.
-
Written Estimates Before Work Begins
Every job over a routine battery change gets a written cost estimate. No surprises at collection.
-
All Work On-Site
Watches are not sent off the island to a third party. Everything is done at the Patak Road bench by our own hands.
-
Clear Communication
We speak English and are comfortable walking owners through what we found, what we did, and what to watch for going forward.
The People Behind the Bench
A small team with complementary skills — keeping Pendulux running smoothly day to day.
Marcus Delacroix
Founder & Head Watchmaker
Trained in La Chaux-de-Fonds before relocating to Southeast Asia. Specialises in mechanical movements and moisture-related damage common in coastal climates.
Nattaya Pimwong
Workshop Assistant & Parts Coordinator
Handles strap sourcing, parts ordering, and assists with polishing and case work. Has worked at Pendulux since 2016 and knows the inventory inside out.
Sophie Renard
Client Relations
Manages enquiries, bookings, and customer communication in English and French. First point of contact for anyone reaching out by phone or email.
Workshop Standards
The protocols we follow to make sure every watch leaves the workshop in better condition than it arrived.
Initial Inspection
Every watch undergoes a visual and functional check before any work is quoted. This helps us understand the full picture before committing to a scope of work.
Moisture-Resistance Testing
Supported quartz models are pressure-tested after battery replacement to confirm the case seal is intact — particularly important in Phuket's humid environment.
Written Work Summaries
Bench overhauls include a written summary of the work completed, parts replaced, and any observations noted during the service.
Genuine Parts Where Possible
We source manufacturer-compatible parts through established suppliers. Where genuine parts are unavailable, we'll discuss alternatives with the owner before proceeding.
Secure Watch Custody
Watches are logged in on arrival and stored securely on-premises throughout the service period. They do not leave the workshop until collection.
Regulated Workshop Environment
The bench area is climate-controlled to prevent condensation and humidity affecting open movements during service — a specific consideration for coastal Thailand.
Watch Repair in Karon, Phuket
Pendulux operates from a dedicated workshop at 36 Patak Road in Karon — a quieter part of Phuket's western coast, away from the busier resort strips. The workshop is accessible on foot from the main Karon beachfront and has parking nearby for those coming from further afield.
The tropical environment of Phuket — high humidity, salt air, and UV exposure — places demands on timepieces that owners elsewhere may not encounter. Seals degrade more quickly, lubricants thin out in heat, and condensation can find its way into cases after diving or beach use. Understanding these conditions is part of what makes local, on-site service worthwhile.
Pendulux services watches across a broad range — from inexpensive quartz pieces that just need a battery to vintage Swiss mechanicals brought in for a considered overhaul. The approach remains the same regardless of value: a clear assessment, a transparent estimate, and work carried out with attention to what the owner actually wants.
Visitors to the island who discover a watch issue mid-holiday are welcome to walk in. Residents and long-term expats often use Pendulux for ongoing watch care. Both are served in the same straightforward way.
